Grafica News - April 2011

I also learnt Total Quality Management in screen printing

That's the voice of one of the participants of DMI's 3-day workshop held on 6,7, 8 January 2011.

DMI institute, an industry initiative of Grafica Flextronica, began the New Year with a positive note. The 40+ participants from all over India and abroad (Tanzania and Mauritius), left DMI with memorable and exciting experiences.

In the past, DMI used to show live demo of print finishing in its workshops, focusing mostly on UV ink aspect. But this time the emphasis was more on creativity and design elements behind an extraordinary print finishing, that is to say combining the design elements, printing techniques, use of appropriate special inks and varnishes to bring a striking combination to achieve out of the box thinking results.

Bhargav Mistry, assisted by DMI faculties showed live demo of producing sweet box, pen holder, corporate folder – all 100% screen printed on 350 gsm silver foil paper board with distinct print finishing techniques using various UV and special effect inks.

This time DMI added a new flavor to its workshop by inviting Rajesh Patil, Manager–Creative Solutions and Akhil Kuruppan, Regional Sales Manager–West from Adobe Systems India Pvt. Ltd. to conduct a session on their newly launched CS5 design premium.

Being an offset printer, the DMI's workshop has given me a proper direction in terms of adopting screen printing for value addition.

DMI's Mission

Perhaps, DMI is the only privately-run institute in the world which conducts free training to printing professionals. Since its official inception in 2006, DMI has been a centre of learning for nearly 2000 printing professionals. Hundreds of feedbacks received from participants speak volumes of DMI's contribution and usefulness of its knowledge. Team DMI led by Bhargav Mistry also regularly conducts educational yet appetizing road shows all over India with houseful programs. The message is clear, there is thirsty for advanced screen printing knowledge.

DMI will continue its mission..

DMI is a unique screen printing institute of its kind in Asia, its' Director Bhargav Mistry has excellent knowledge and he shares his expertise in screen printing very openly for the benefit of screen printing industry at large. The best input I am taking back are: The tips on proper screen making for process color screen printing and using moiré guard; how to use ICC profile and standardization in screen printing.

We are into textile transfers and I came to DMI to learn new techniques and right method of screen printing process from the guru Bhargav. I have had great moment at DMI, it was mind blowing experience. In fact I suggest DMI to have extended sessions even if it means adding an extra day to the course.

Had I got this type of training about ten years' ago I would have made greater strides in my printing business than what I am today. Anyway, DMI is very neat, clean yet inspiring set up, the speaker and his faculties are of high standard and they are very friendly.
