Rathna Offset embraces screen printing to offer value addition

Chennai based Rathna Offset Printers was started off with book printing which still remains to be their main business. They undertake all kinds of commercial printing including host of leading Magazines, publicity materials printing. It's but natural that some portion of the books and magazine printing also involves value addition. “We print certain fashion magazines which require specialized finishing with spot UV. For a couple of years we used to outsource the service. Since our jobs are time-bound (they being periodicals), we decided to set up inhouse screen printing unit so that we could have control over production and dispatch,” says Ashok who looks after maintenance.

“Value addition is now in very much demand. The demand came from few of our customers. We believe, the trend will continue. Some of the magazines that we print are target-oriented, and meant for the premium market hence our customers (the Publishers) want to make it attractive, they want to give their customers something different,” he adds.

“We believe, screen printing is a low cost investment yet highly innovative method to offer value addition and at the same time gain higher returns. There are other technologies such as Offset UV but I believe it is a very expensive proposition,” he concludes. Founded by S. Bharathi in 1968,

Rathna Offset is managed by his successors - Ashok / Rajkumar / Suresh (See Pic below) . The company's 25000 sq. ft. print facility houses 7 multi colour offset presses (Two 5 colour, four 4- colour and one 2-colour), post press and complete pre press under one roof. Their sister concern also has a web offset. Now with the deployment of Grafica's Nano-Print plus, the company has become self reliant in terms of spot UV/print finishing.
