JSR Garments begins revamping its manual DTG screen printing unit
with nano-prinTag plus & GraficaTex
As a manufacturer of kids wear, Ludhiana-based JSR Garments used to outsource their garment printing requirement. Later they set up a huge manual screen printing facility with long printing tables and hand operated carousel machines. After understanding the great advantages of automation, a year ago, the company invested in GraficaTex and nano-prinTag plus.
However, the management realized that unless and until right knowledge is acquired one cannot achieve better results on automatic screen printing machines. So, they followed it up with an aggressive knowledge upgradation mission; their top management attended DMI's workshops, closely interacted with Bhargav Mistry, Director of DMI during his visit to Ludhiana. As they started implementing the knowledge and changed the age old methods, they witnessed dramatic quality improvement and faster turn-around of jobs. And the real benefit of automation was felt in their balance sheet as well.
Started with a small garment manufacturing unit for women wear in 1990, JSR Garments has now grown big. Its current facility for kids wear manufacturing is spread over 3 buildings (around 45000 sq.ft or 5000 gaj) which also houses a large capacity inhouse textile screen printing unit and a Sublimation printing unit. The company also has complete screen making set up.
Why did you opt for Grafica?
Grafica helped us streamline our production as we were moving out from manual printing to automation. We also got immense technical support from Grafica. In addition, we closely interacted with Bhargav Mistry during his visit to Ludhiana. Our team had also attended DMI workshop on advanced textile screen printing.
Why did you set up inhouse DTG screen printing unit?
We have been already using one GraficaTex for all-over printing of kids wear and one nano-prinTag plus for printing small area upto 10" x 8".
Being a manufacturer of garments, we found it profitable to have an inhouse garment printing facility rather than outsourcing. Earlier we used to completely outsource printing. Now, we have inhouse garment printing unit. There is logistic convenience and complete freedom when it comes to garment printing, creativity and R&D. However, sometimes if the load is more we outsource printing.
And why did you go for automation?
There are two main reasons:
What's trend in kids wear printing?
In the Girls segment, 70% wear come with prints and rest rolled out with embroidery or without print. Whereas in the Boys segment about 60% merchandise rolled out with print and rest come either without print or mix of print and embroidery.
We also print various Special effects such as High density, crack, flock, foil, emboss, etc. Since we are manufacturer of kids wear, we use only certified Eco friendly inks which are compliance to international standards.
You have Inhouse Design?
Yes we have have a design department with 3 graphic designers. We change designs based on our own market research and reports on market trends/fashion trends. For e.g. now the 1990s fashion is coming back again; also every 6 months fashion trend changes.

"I appreciate Bhargav for his noble thoughts of imparting knowledge to screen printers!"
Gaurav Arora, Moda Creations, Ludhiana.
"DMI is a beautiful centre for learning the art of screen printing."
Shaikh Mousthapha, Moda Creations, Ludhiana.
"We gained valuable knowledge in pre press, photoshop, screen washing/reclaiming. We have understood that pre press is important aspect of garment printing; quality can never be achieved unless screens are properly made. We also got some tips on how to improvise the designs. We learnt color separation technique, spot and CMYK printing. Back home, we found amazing results after following these DMI tips; many of our problems in screen making have also been now resolved. And with the kind of knowledge we were able to explore advanced screen printing technology profitably."
